Another Great Email From a TMG Artist

Like I've said before these types of emails make my day, week, even month. I love hearing artists who understand our system and truly appreciate what Tate Music Group does for them. The email below is from a TMG artists who recently released her debut CD.

"You are so amazing! Tate is Awesome! I am excited about the blessing of God and all he is doing for His people. All to honor Him! I think you are on top of it, your response and deliverance is to me without blemish. The reason I say this is because you take on your artist and you make sure that "we" have all we need. You never leave me questioning, and if you feel that there is something to correct you take it at full throttle and correct it. Thank you, I am having a blast working with you. I can not wait to see this full cycle and us working in future endeavours."

Google in a position to dominate the mobile industry.

There are fears that Google can and will dominate the mobile space in upcoming years. Mobile companies are fearful that Google with its current 70 - 80% hold of the market in search and advertising realms can grow and completely dominate the space.

In a recent article in Billboard reporting on the events of the Mobile World Conference Chief Exec of Vodafone Group Plc expressed fears of many when he said Google Inc should not be allowed to dominate the mobile space.

I guess from articles I've read that there is a bandwidth crunch or capacity crunch and smart phones as they are can't handle it. Google wants the mobile companies to adapt to them instead of meeting in the middle.

Google wants the mobile companies to invest enormous amounts of money at great risk and in return Google will continue to build powerful new resources to upgrade the connections.

Whoever wins in this battle doesn't really matter as long as it continues to move forward. Web video, viral marketing, iPhone apps all things Tate Music Group offers our artists is around because of this technology. As long as it continues to grow artists will have new and streamlined ways to market their product and themselves to a growing fan base.

MySpace CEO is Out After Less Than a Year

Billboard magazine reported in an article this morning by Antony Bruno that Owen Van Natta has stepped down after less than a year as CEO of MySpace.

I wanted to share this not because it has anything to do with Tate Music Group directly but MySpace is one of the largest social networks for musicians. I believe there are over 12 million "active" MySpace music profiles. MySpace is used by industry pros ranging from Radio Promoters, DJ, PD's, Venues, Booking Agencies...you name it in the music industry, they probably use it. MySpace is a great snapshot of who an artist is, how many plays are they getting on a daily basis, how active they are and how many friends they can instantly connect with.

Note that MySpace Music has a separate President Courtney Holt and these changes internally have not seemed to affect Holt or the music platform.

MySpace has lost significant ground to Facebook in recent years and this strategy is a renewed focus on making MySpace a social entertainment hub.

Another TMG Artist Recieves Thier Artist Investment Back!

I always love seeing emails like this.

"We (Sonlit) made it! 2,500 CD's and counting! I will be honest, when we first signed with Tate we were a bit skeptical on how things would go, but the proof is in the numbers. Tate has produced a high quality product for us that has really taken off with our fans and helped us gain credibility with radio stations, venues and other media outlets around the region. We've done a lot of work as a band to get where we are, but we truly feel this project with Tate has given us an added boost to help us reach our musical goals. Thanks Allen F, Josh D, and Chris R, for your help and To God be the glory!" - Jim From Sonlit Music.

I know I'm going to be asked what sets Sonlit apart and how did they get to 2500 so quickly. The answer is easy. Regardless of how much a label does it really doesn't matter if the artist or band doesn't work. Jim said it best when he said "We've done a lot of work as a band to get where we are..."

Pepsi Skips Superbowl Advertising for Social Media

With the capability of the Internet, social networking has taken off as a great way to create buzz and attract attention. Musicians use sites like MySpace, Twitter, and Facebook to capitalize on the positive affects of viral marketing.

Viral marketing is a great way to reach a ton of people without spending a ton of money or even a penny in most instances. We've all received emails from others that tell us to pass the email on to ten people and to tell them to pass it on to ten people. Regardless if only 10% of the email recipients do just that you've just reached millions. Pepsi is proof in point by opting out of the famed Super Bowl limelight this year to concentrate on a social media campaign. Pepsi like most others believe that the days when mass market media is the sole vehicle to reach an audience are officially over. Obviously anyone who has heard of the internet and email knows this to be true.

In order to take full marketing advantage of what the internet offers artists should utilize this medium to its fullest. The problem most artists run into is that there are a ton of sites out there and keeping up is a full time job on its own.

I would suggest picking a few. For instance have a website, MySpace and Twitter page. These three will give you a good base to do all of the networking you need to do. The important thing is to keep the sites and blogs updated as much as possible, stay in contact and drive as much attention to your sites as possible. Connect with people!
