MySpace CEO is Out After Less Than a Year

Billboard magazine reported in an article this morning by Antony Bruno that Owen Van Natta has stepped down after less than a year as CEO of MySpace.

I wanted to share this not because it has anything to do with Tate Music Group directly but MySpace is one of the largest social networks for musicians. I believe there are over 12 million "active" MySpace music profiles. MySpace is used by industry pros ranging from Radio Promoters, DJ, PD's, Venues, Booking Agencies...you name it in the music industry, they probably use it. MySpace is a great snapshot of who an artist is, how many plays are they getting on a daily basis, how active they are and how many friends they can instantly connect with.

Note that MySpace Music has a separate President Courtney Holt and these changes internally have not seemed to affect Holt or the music platform.

MySpace has lost significant ground to Facebook in recent years and this strategy is a renewed focus on making MySpace a social entertainment hub.

  1. I believe that a facebook Fan page displays a greater degree of a true Fan. Anybody and everybody wants to be your friend on Myspace. Not always, because they like your music. Most of the time it is for their own benefit. Fans on facebook are more likely to have listen to your music and read a bit about you.
